A German design registered with the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA) protects the appearance of your product in Germany only. It is the most economical option if Germany is your only market in the EU. We file through our head office in Potsdam. The fixed attorney fee is 300 EUR including representation before the DPMA.
Official fees
For an electronic application with regular publication the DPMA charges 60 EUR for one design. In a multiple application the fee is 6 EUR per design, with a minimum of 60 EUR, so up to ten designs cost the same official fee. Our fee covers one design. For several designs you receive a fixed quote in advance.
Term of protection
Protection runs for five years and can be extended up to a maximum of 25 years by paying renewal fees.
Germany or the whole EU?
A filing with deferred publication costs only 30 EUR, but during deferment protection against copying is limited and further fees fall due if you want full protection later. As soon as you sell in a second EU country, the EU design is usually the better choice. More background is on our design registration overview.
Prices are net attorney fees. For business clients outside Germany no German VAT is added. Official fees are paid separately and are listed above.
