An Austrian design, called Muster under Austrian law, is registered with the Austrian Patent Office and protects the appearance of your product in Austria only. We file through our branch office in Hallein near Salzburg. The fixed attorney fee is 300 EUR including representation before the Austrian Patent Office.
Official fees
A single design filed online currently costs 107.50 EUR including the document fee and one Locarno class. Each further class costs 15.50 EUR. A multiple application costs 152 EUR, and from the eleventh design 18.50 EUR per design are added. Up to 50 designs in the same Locarno class can be combined. Each colour variant of a product counts as a separate design in Austria, so we check whether a neutral black and white representation is sufficient.
Term of protection
Protection runs for five years from filing and can be renewed four times for five years each, up to 25 years. The renewal fee for a single design is currently 130 EUR.
Austria or the whole EU?
An Austrian design is the right tool if Austria is your only market in the EU. As soon as you also sell in Germany or other member states, the EU design is usually more economical. More background is on our design registration overview.
Prices are net attorney fees. The VAT treatment depends on your country and on the office through which we act, and is shown in our quote. Official fees are paid separately and are listed above.
